Two Finalists Announced
February 5, 2025

On behalf of the Board of Education, I am pleased to announce the finalists for the position of Superintendent of Schools at Canaseraga. The Board has identified two outstanding candidates who bring a wealth of experience, leadership, and dedication to education.

Mr. Sean Gaffney is a seasoned educational leader with over 35 years of experience. He began his career as a Special Education Teacher in Hornell, then transitioned into administration in 1998, serving in roles such as Director of Pupil Personnel and Principal at various grade levels. His passion for education has remained strong, recently taking on interim principal roles in multiple districts, including Hornell, Addison, and currently, Alfred-Almond after his retirement from Hornell. He is committed to building collaborative and trusting environments where open communication and collegiality thrive. He believes that a positive and supportive atmosphere is key to success, and is guided by the leadership philosophy: “A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

Mrs. Shelby DeMitry is currently in her 23rd year in education and is proudly serving in her third school year as PK-12 Building Principal at Canaseraga. Dedicated to continuous professional growth, she has recently completed the New York State Superintendent Development Program, further strengthening her leadership skills and strategic vision for school and district administration. Throughout her career, she has held a wide range of educational roles, each of which has deepened her understanding of student needs, instructional best practices, and effective school leadership. She is driven by her commitment to the school community and strives for excellence for all students.

These candidates have been invited to participate in a stakeholder interview on Thursday, February 6th. We look forward to keeping the school community informed as we work through the process of selection.

Thank you,

Stacy Saglibene
